Elden Ring Discarded Palace Key Location And How To Use The Key
Navigating the vast Lands Between in Elden Ring often requires collecting crucial quest items that open up late-game areas and narrative paths. Among these key items, the Discarded Palace Key plays a pivotal role in advancing Lunar Princess Ranni's intricate storyline. Understanding where to obtain this item and how to unlock its corresponding treasure chest is essential for players aiming to complete her questline.
How to Obtain the Discarded Palace Key
To acquire the Discarded Palace Key, players must progress through Ranni's storyline until reaching the underground Ainsel River Main region. After picking up the Miniature Ranni doll near the stone coffin, rest at nearby Sites of Grace to speak with the doll until her dialogue exhausts. Continuing through Nokstella, Eternal City toward the Lake of Rot triggers an encounter with an invading hostile NPC called the Baleful Shadow. Defeating this formidable phantom rewards players directly with the Discarded Palace Key.
Locating the Locked Carian Chest
Once the key is safely in your inventory, you must fast travel back to Liurnia of the Lakes. Head directly to the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria, which serves as the arena where you previously fought Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Located right next to Rennala's resting position stands an ornate, locked wooden chest that previously could not be interacted with. The Discarded Palace Key fits this exact lock, granting access to the valuable prize inside.
Claiming the Dark Moon Ring
Opening the chest rewards the player with the Dark Moon Ring, a essential key item required for the final steps of Ranni's journey. Taking this ring through the Lake of Rot and past the defeat of Astel, Naturalborn of the Void leads to the Cathedral of Manus Celes. Presenting the ring to Ranni seals your commitment to her ending and rewards you with the powerful Dark Moon Greatsword.
Troubleshooting Common Progress Issues
If the Baleful Shadow fails to spawn in the cavern before the Lake of Rot, make sure you have fully spoken to the Miniature Ranni doll at the Site of Grace. Players who miss this dialogue step will find the area quiet, preventing the key from dropping. Checking your inventory carefully after the battle ensures you have everything needed before returning to the Academy.
